For this featured single I wanted to do more of a throwback song but one that I listen to pretty regularly. Randy Travis is a musical genius and one my all time favorite songs 'Three Wooden Crosses' is a wonderful representation of the mans work.
I can not even put into words the creative lyrics this man came up with for this song. At first listen, it is just a wonderfully crafted sound that bounces off your ears and makes you want to roll your windows down and drive through the country( or atleast that is what I do), but at closer inspection you can see that he truly tells an entire story with his lyrics.
" A farmer and a teacher, a hooker and a preacher Ridin' on a midnight bus bound for Mexico One's headed for vacation, one for higher education And two of them were searchin' for lost souls That driver never ever saw the stop sign And eighteen wheelers can't stop on a dime
There are three wooden crosses on the right side of the highway Why there's not four of them, Heaven only knows I guess it's not what you take when you leave this world behind you It's what you leave behind you when you go"
It tells the story of 4 people traveling at night when they get in a motor vehicle accident. You follow along in the song wondering who survived the wreck when you finally find out it was created that the character telling the story is actually a preacher now whose mom was in the accident and survived the wreck. In the story she was the hooker and the preacher in the accident gave her his bible as a gift right before his passing. When I truly listened to the song and it's meaning I had a deeper appreciation for the artist and his story telling!
