Recently a new rendition of the classic "Baby, It's Cold Outside" has surfaced with the John Legend and Kelly Clarkson, both major artist giving their spin to the classic song.
This new interpretation has taken the internet by storm causing a flood of outrage about the new song lyrics. Some felt the classic Christmas tune was outdated and needed to be more culturally appropriate for today's listeners, while others felt this was tradition and something that did not need to be fixed. " My mother will start to worry (I'll call the car and tell him to hurry) My daddy will be pacing the floor (Wait, what are you still livin' home for?) So, really, I'd better scurry (Your driver, his name is Murray) But maybe just a half a drink more (Oh, we're both adults, so who's keepin' score) What will my friends think? (I think they should rejoice) If I have one more drink? (It's your body and your choice) "
This is an example of some of the new lyrics incorporated into the song. I find it a little odd that they are changing the words to talk about ordering the woman a car service such as Uber/ Lyft in a classic Christmas song. While I could see the point of changing a song if it had a more negative take to it, I find "Baby, It's Cold Outside" to be a classic as well as a song that doesn't need to be changed. After listening to Legends rendition in it's entirety I can't help but feel like maybe it was a joke?
